 Professor Wong's scientific discoveries have been published in over 160 journal  articles of which 44 are in Physical Review Letters, the journal usually reserved for new and innovative works.

 He is the author of a laboratory text on

experimental plasma physics.

 His specialization lies in the physics of ion dynamics, in linear and nonlinear wave phenomena.

 Professor Wong is holder of 63 patents granted by US

and foreign patent offices and has additional nine patents pending in the areas of Energy, Environment and Communications.

He is the principal inventor of a plasma cutting torch for hazardous and mixed waste, patented in 1994. He was granted a patent in 1997 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for "System and Method for Restoration of Selected Atmospheric Conditions and High Altitude Telecommunications System." The patent describes a method of removing unwanted elements, such as chlorine, from the atmosphere, which destroy the ozone layer.

 He was among the first to demonstrate the modulation

of the auroral electrojet in Alaska at low frequencies

in the range of the ion cyclotron frequencies of

Chlorine and Carbon Dioxide.

 This introduces his concept of remediating the

depletion of the ozone layer and addressing the global

warming using free energy sources already present in

nature.

 This concept was covered in an article in the Economist

in 2007, following his invited talk at the Pan

American Congress in May 2007.

In 1967 he was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan  Fellowship, a two-year research grant for

promising young faculty members.

In 1985 he received the American Physical Society Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics

for "the first definitive experimental demonstration and fundamental study of self-focusing and

collapse of Langmuir waves."

In 2008 He was conferred an honorary degree by the the University of Macao for his contributions toplasma science and the environment
