在28位美國國會議員與多位台灣立法委員參與及見證下，台灣農產品訪問團今天在美國國會山莊（US Capitol Hill）與美方業者簽署金額達32億美元（約新台幣995億元）的農產品採購意向書,其第一排左三為I.A.E國際學士院傑出院友 洪堯昆博士董事長（）。

協議簽署後，台灣駐美代表蕭美琴表示，台美農產品貿易是兩國互惠互利關係的又一例證。

蕭還感謝美國在國會兩個主要政黨對台灣的兩黨支持。 蕭說，在他們的支持下，美台貿易關係蓬勃發展。

華盛頓——美國參議員凱文克萊默 (R-ND) 在 2022 年台灣農業貿易親善代表團發表講話，重申他對台灣的支持，並強調該島與北達科他州（North Dakota）之間牢固的農業貿易關係。

2022台灣農業貿易親善團由台灣農業委員會副部長黃博士率領。代表團與美國大豆出口委員會、美國穀物委員會和美國小麥協會簽署了三份意向書 (LOI)。意向書概述了台灣在 2023 年和 2024 年從美國購買玉米、大豆和小麥的意向，預計承諾總額將超過 32 億美元。

台灣是美國農產品的第 7 大海外市場，2021 年貿易總額為 39 億美元。按人均消費量計算，台灣是美國農產品的第 4 大消費國。北達科他州在大豆、玉米、小麥和牛肉生產方面處於全國領先地位，這些生產構成了對台灣最大的農產品出口。

愛荷華州州長金雷諾茲（ Kimberly Kay Reynolds）、愛荷華農業部長邁克奈格、愛荷華玉米促進委員會、愛荷華大豆協會和愛荷華經濟發展局（IEDA）今天接待了台灣農業貿易親善團成員。代表團訪問愛荷華州的主要目的是簽署購買玉米和大豆的意向書。
 
“今天的意向書代表了愛荷華州與台灣長期雙邊友誼的下一階段，”州長雷諾茲說。 “它們也有力地證明了愛荷華州農民在高質量農業生產方面的全球聲譽——以及由此為我們的經濟帶來的巨大利益。我非常感謝台灣對愛荷華的承諾，我迫不及待地想看看這種關係未來會走向何方。”

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, Iowa Corn Promotion Board, Iowa Soybean Association and Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) today hosted members of the Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission. The delegation’s primary purpose for visiting Iowa was to sign letters of intent for the purchase of corn and soybeans.  

“Today’s letters of intent represent the next stage of Iowa’s longstanding, bilateral friendship with Taiwan,” said Gov. Reynolds. “They’re also powerful proof of Iowa farmers’ global reputation for high-quality agricultural production – and the enormous benefits that flow to our economy as a result. I’m deeply grateful to Taiwan for committing to Iowa, and I can’t wait to see where this relationship goes in the future.”   
 
At the signing ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol, Governor Reynolds welcomed the delegation and noted the long-term trade relations between Taiwan and the U.S. The letters indicate Taiwan’s intent to purchase between 96 million and 107 million bushels of U.S. soybeans and 59 million bushels of corn between 2023 and 2024. The agreements are estimated to be worth USD$2.6 billion. 

“Because of our rich natural resources and our productive farmers, Iowans are extremely proud to help provide safe, abundant, and nutritious food for consumers all over the globe,” said Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. “Our longstanding friendship and our growing trading partnership with Taiwan are positives for Iowa’s economy and farmers and we sincerely appreciate their letter of intent to purchase more corn and soybeans.” 

The IEDA’s International Trade Office leads multiple trade missions throughout the year to destinations worldwide, including Taiwan. These trade missions are aimed at expanding existing and emerging markets for Iowa products and identifying foreign-direct investment opportunities in the state.  

Taiwan is Iowa’s 12th largest trading partner, with exports estimated at $305 million in manufactured and value-added goods in 2021. In the first half of 2022 alone, Iowa exports to Taiwan have increased 4% compared to last year.  

The Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission delegation’s itinerary also includes visits with elected officials, ag producers and commodity groups, and university representatives during their stay in the U.S.

台灣承諾將在2023到2024年間，購買約261萬到294萬公噸黃豆，和149.8萬公噸玉米，對此州長表示感謝，農業部長也強調，看好雙方的長期友誼和不斷增長的貿易關係。

 

愛荷華農業部長奈格說，「對我們來說出口貿易，會是應該是而且持續是，極端重要的賺錢來源，因此我們需要為產品尋找市場，國際國內或是本地的都可以。」

出席簽字儀式的國會議員對親善團深表感謝，承認增加採購將促進美國農產品出口，造福美國農民，創造就業機會，為台灣消費者提供優質農產品。

 A delegation of lawmakers from Taiwan  met with their U.S. counterparts in Washington and exchanged views on recent developments in U.S.-Taiwan relations, cross-strait relations, and bilateral trade.

The delegation met with representatives including Republican Senators Mike Lee and Marsha Blackburn, as well as Representatives Darrell Issa and Mario Díaz-Balart, according to a statement by Kuomintang (KMT) lawmaker Chen I-hsin (陳以信) on Thursday.

Darrell Issa expressed concern about recent developments in the Taiwan Strait and recommended that Taiwan push reforms of its military reserve system, including improving its training, according to Chen.

Issa said that a sound system for training and maintaining reservists was crucial for any robust democracy, according to Chen.

Díaz-Balart, who co-chairs the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, underlined Taiwan's importance to the democratic world while reassuring that the U.S. was Taiwan's most dependable partner, Chen said.

After the agreements were signed, Taiwan’s representative to the U.S., Hsiao Bi-Khim (蕭美琴), said that agricultural trade between Taiwan and the U.S. is another example of the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.

Hsiao also thanked the U.S. for the bipartisan support shown for Taiwan from both major political parties in congress. Thanks to their support, U.S.-Taiwan trade relations have flourished, according to Hsiao.

Due to the COVID pandemic, this was the first Taiwanese agricultural trade mission to visit Washington, D.C. in three years, reports CNA. Taiwanese delegates at the signing event also touted the “Taiwan-U.S. 21st Century Trade Initiative” and the upcoming free trade agreement talks, which are expected to significantly boost bilateral trade over the years ahead.

Taiwan to Purchase $600 Million Worth of Corn Products from Iowa

Larry Buss, President of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board® (ICPB) met with representatives of the Taiwan Feed Industry Association, Governor Kim Reynolds and Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig to sign a letter of intent to purchase $600 million worth of corn products between 2023 and 2024. This agreement includes 1.5 million metric tons (MT) (59 million bushels) of corn and 250 thousand MT (9.8 million bushels) of corn products (DDGS or distillers dried grains and solubles).

Taiwan and Iowa have a longstanding relationship and this letter of intent is a testament to their friendship and mutually beneficial trade commitments. Because of our high-quality produce, the U.S. remains one of Taiwan’s largest sources of agricultural products, supplying more than one-fifth of the country’s major agricultural imports including $72.1 million worth of corn in 2021.  We expect Taiwan to remain a consistent partner of Iowa corn farmers.

“As a part of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board’s mission we strive to develop opportunities to help open markets for Iowa corn farmers,” stated ICPB President Larry Buss, a farmer from Logan, Iowa. “Letters of intent allow us to share our bounty with great corn customers, like Taiwan, and mean a great deal for Iowa corn farmers in terms of market opportunity and development.”
